Treat Dad right this Father's Day with a scenic trip to Union for great food and drinks. Once again, we will be teaming up with Sweetgrass Farm Winery and Distillery to offer Dad a memorable day of wine, spirits, and cheese.
And, what better way to spend Father's Day than by having a pig roast! To add a little excitement to the event, the winemakers at Savage Oakes and Sweetgrass Farm Winery, Elmer and Keith, have challenged each other to a cook-off. Each will be vying for bragging rights while serving up their own pork masterpiece and raising money for a good cause. We will be accepting donations for the Come Spring Food Pantry and encouraging votes for the Savage Oakes pork creation. (We promise not to stuff the ballot box.) Also joining in the fun will be the State of Maine Cheese Company, a small business that has been handcrafting fine cheeses, from milk produced by Maine dairies, since 1983. They have chosen cheeses to bring that pair well with pork or fun summer gatherings. For example, Mt. Kineo Caerphilly cheese with its creamy flavor and hint of tanginess at the finish is the perfect pairing with roasted pork and a glass of Come Spring red. You'll have the opportunity to pair many different wines, cheeses and pork combinations to find your favorite.
We will also have salt from Maine Sea Salt to sample with your pork as well as savory jellies from Better Than Average.
As always, winemakers and cheesemakers are on hand to discuss their wines, cheeses, and pairings. What could be better than a ride in the country, Maine cheese, and wine?
